Nocturne published in new anthology 22 Nocturnes for Chopin

I am very excited to announce that my Nocturne in Fm was published this summer by EVC Music. It is featured in the anthology 22 Nocturnes for Chopin.

This collection is the result of a worldwide call for scores initiated by the pianist Rose McLachlan and EVC Music founder Elena Cobb. The call was extended to female composers because, as Elena states, “Almost every Chopin piano work has a dedication to a woman, and it occurred to me that if women composers would write these pieces inspired by Chopin, the anthology would complete the circle.” Each nocturne has been inspired by Chopin and the collection is a beautiful tribute to one of piano music’s most notable and loved composers.

The collection is truly unique. Some composers’ pieces are stylistic of Chopin, while others have transitioned from his romanticisms to something more contemporary. My piece begins in a Chopinistic style, before transitioning to my own voice in a contemporary, jazz inspired idiom.

Over 60 scores were submitted, so I am delighted to be one of the 16 composers chosen. The remaining six pieces were commissioned from established composers.

To add to this excitement, I was invited to attend the book launch and recital on the 18th September at Steinway Hall, London. Rose beautifully performed a selection of the Nocturnes. I really enjoyed hearing my piece bought to life, as well as hearing a variety of the other pieces. It was such a pleasure to meet Rose and Elena, as well as the other composers! It was a memorable day!
